There are moments when we find ourselves overwhelmed, questioning whether we will ever reach the finish line. However, just like the narrative arcs of our favorite stories, there’s something deeply satisfying about a well-executed conclusion—one that feels both rewarding and fulfilling. Whether it's a personal goal, a professional project, or even a cherished movie or book, the feeling of completion is something we all strive for. It brings a sense of peace, knowing that despite the ups and downs, there was a purpose behind every step we took. And when the ending is good, it makes all the struggles worthwhile. UAE tops Middle East, North Africa in Global Food Security Index 2022

UAE

The UAE scored first in the MiddleEast and North Africa (MENA) region on the Global Food Security Index (GFSI) 2022, published by Economist Impact, up from third place in the region for the year 2021, according to information provided by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE).

The UAE placed first among MENA nations in the index's overall food security index and food availability indicator, second in food quality and safety, and fifth in both affordability and food sustainability and adaptation.

She is excellent Strengthening food security is a strategic goal for the UAE, according to Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, Minister of Climate Change and Environment. We have chosen an integrated strategy that includes the implementation of national strategies and the development of an accommodating legislative and regulatory environment in order to accomplish this goal.

With the goal of ensuring food security in all situations, the comprehensive National Food Security Strategy 2051 aims to create sustainable food systems by utilising modern technologies, encouraging local production, forming international alliances to diversify food sources, and enacting laws and policies that enhance nutrition and lower food waste.

The goal of the strategy is to elevate the UAE's position in terms of global indicators of food security and make the nation a centre for innovation-based food security.

Her Excellency also stated that projects, programmes, and initiatives that boost local production capacities, encourage investment and entrepreneurship in the food sector, and encourage the adoption of sustainable farming practises are all part of the efforts to ensure food security.

She emphasised that the UAE is making efforts to meet its objective of dominating the GFSI by 2051.

One of the primary foundations of the policy, according to the minister, is making sure that food is available and that supply networks are continuous and flexible.

She outlined the steps that must be taken to achieve this, including enhancing international collaboration, diversifying the sources of food imports, raising foreign agricultural investment, and monitoring import markets to ensure adherence to the strictest international standards for food safety.

In terms of availability of food, the UAE placed seventh globally, 16th in terms of food safety and quality, and 23rd overall in terms of food security. In comparison to the 71 points recorded in 2021, the country scored 75.2 points on the 100-point general scale, showing increase of 4.2 points.

In August 2021, MOCCAE and Emirates Development Bank (EDB) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to work together to identify creative financing options to boost entrepreneurship in the agrifood sector based on the application of cutting-edge technologies and sustainable systems.

One of the most significant and dynamic industries in the nation that has experienced a quick recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic is the food trade. Now exceeding 41,000 tonnes per day, the rate of food imports has increased by 21% since the same time last year.

The yearly GFSI monitors and records changes in the structural elements that impact food security year over year. The index considers 113 different countries' resilience, natural resources, and criteria including food cost, availability, quality, and safety. Based on 58 variables, it assesses the factors that influence food security in both developing and wealthy nations
