UAE Non-Oil Business Activity Surges to Nine-Month High in December

 The United Arab Emirates' non-oil private sector recorded its fastest expansion in nine months in December 2024, buoyed by strong domestic demand and increased business activity, according to the latest S&P Global Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) report. PMI Highlights Robust Growth The seasonally adjusted UAE PMI climbed to 55.4 in December from 54.2 in November, signaling robust growth well above the 50.0 threshold that separates expansion from contraction. This marked the third consecutive monthly increase, underscoring sustained recovery in the non-oil sector. Key drivers of growth included a notable rise in new business activity. UAE Affirms keenness to Strengthen protection of Human Rights

 

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) stated that it places a high priority on the promotion and protection of human rights at the national level. Its cultural heritage, constitution, and legal system all uphold the UDHR's core values of equality, respect for rights, and support for humanitarian and relief efforts.

The UAE has been eager to improve its legislative system and continue its national efforts towards advancing the rights of all civil, political, economic, cultural, and social rights, according to Alia Al Ali, who gave the state's declaration on human rights at the UN Security Council. The state passed a number of significant pieces of legislation over the previous time, covering topics including personal status laws, civil transactions, criminal proceedings, the penal code, and combating prejudice and hatred.

By issuing 8 laws between decrees with laws and ministerial decisions, major modernization and development processes regarding the legislative and regulatory utterances related to workers' rights were carried out. These laws were issued with the intention of strengthening the protection of workers' rights and increasing their effectiveness, ensuring their stability and enhancing the productive workplace environment.

In terms of developing and strengthening national human rights mechanisms, Federal Law No. 12 of 2021 establishing the "National Human Rights Authority" is one of the most significant laws aimed at doing so. The authority is distinguished from other government mechanisms by being a body that has financial independence.

The National Human Rights Committee, which is the country's government coordination body on the human rights subject, is overseeing the creation of a national human rights plan at the level of establishing plans, policies, and programmes connected with human rights.

It will serve as a future road plan for advancing human rights via cooperation and dialogue.
