UAE’s GCAA wins ICAO's Council membership for sixth consecutive time

The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) of the United ArabEmirates has been chosen to represent the country in the ICAO Council for the sixth time in a row. The Organization's executive branch, the 36-member Council, is chosen to serve terms of three years.
The UAE's efforts in the international aviation industry have paid off, as they were successful in receiving 161 of the 175 valid votes at the ICAO's 41st Session General Assembly meetings, which took place in Montreal, Canada, from September 27 through October 7.
Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the GCAA, senior UAE civil aviation officials, and representatives of member states of the 193 member organisation all attended the election session.
According to Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, the UAE's re-election to the ICAO Council is in line with the leadership's goals for the sector and demonstrates the trust that the regional and global aviation industries have in the UAE's aviation sector and its enviable position.
The UAE's triumph also falls on the same day, October 5, as the UAE's Aviation Day festivities, he continued.
According to GCAA, the aviation industry contributes 15% of the
UAE's GDP, a figure that is projected to keep rising over the coming years.
