The United Arab Emirates' non-oil private sector recorded its fastest expansion in nine months in December 2024, buoyed by strong domestic demand and increased business activity, according to the latest S&P Global Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) report. PMI Highlights Robust Growth The seasonally adjusted UAE PMI climbed to 55.4 in December from 54.2 in November, signaling robust growth well above the 50.0 threshold that separates expansion from contraction. This marked the third consecutive monthly increase, underscoring sustained recovery in the non-oil sector. Key drivers of growth included a notable rise in new business activity. The new orders subindex rose sharply to 59.3 in December from 58.0 in the previous month, reflecting strong domestic demand. Challenges Amid the Growth While domestic demand flourished, export growth slowed, with the export orders subindex dropping to a seven-month low. Additionally, businesses faced mounting backlogs due to capacity constraints,...

Google Pixel 7 Pro review: The best camera phone yet?

Google Pixel

At one point, I would never leave the house without my Canon DSLR. But after a few years of this, my back began to suffer, and the excitement of seeing new places diminished somewhat. And that's when I realised that although I couldn't play about with lights and shadows as much as I could with the DSLR, the smartphones I had started using were frequently good at capturing the moment. After that, smartphone cameras began to advance, and the Google Pixel 7 Pro is now available.

Review

It's not always what it seems. I therefore decided not to be discouraged by the Google Pixel 7 Pro's 2015 design, which includes its glossy ivory white rear panel and curved metal frame and makes it cumbersome in many aspects. A sharp edge may have made this large phone simpler to hold, especially while using it as a camera. The chrome-covered metal camera ring at the back nearly has an industrial look to it.

At 1500 nits, the 6.7-inch LTPO AMOLED is undoubtedly one of the brightest displays I have ever used. By doing this, the screen is made useable even in Delhi's hot fall sun. The speakers, however, let me down because they could have been a little louder.

With no manufacturer-added skins or customizations that hinder the user experience, I have always thought that using a Google phone offered the purest Android experience. The Pixel 7 Pro promises a straightforward and practical Android experience. The additional widget options increase productivity, particularly the full-view calendar that displays a full month's worth of events on the home screen.

The 5-nanometer Tensor G2 chip made by Google themselves powers the Pixel 7 Pro. Given how much this phone can accomplish on the software side, particularly with the camera, the processor is pretty capable. However, it is also clear that Google is a novice in the CPU market. On sometimes, the back and metallic edges of the phone get hot. Although it doesn't get too hot to handle, this is not what one would anticipate from a flagship gadget in 2022. A software update might be required to bring things down a notch.

The Google Pixel 7 Pro's chipset, however, won't be chosen. Because of its superior camera, it will be purchased. Even though they are not as popular as the iPhone and occasionally have to compete with it, Google phones have developed a niche in this market over the years. But the Pixel 7 Pro stands out from the competition. I'll explain why.

Given that this was a Pixel and my expectations were high, I was initially unimpressed. But following a brief software update, I went on a brief photowalk with a friend to see some Delhi landmarks. The three lenses on the Pixel 7 Pro—a 50MP wide main lens, a 48MP telephoto lens, and a 12MP telephoto lens—ensure that this is a good camera no matter what you do with it. But I'm not going to stop there.

Every time you take a picture, you'll realise this camera is more than just good optics. There is a little lag when the camera communicates with the internal computer to combine the images into the finest possible composite shot. The lenses on this camera are less important than the software magic. Given that it is a Google camera at its core, this is the kind of camera that will never require a branded lens.

There were instances where the first photograph appeared to be out of focus but quickly transformed into a sharp portrait with fantastic bokeh. And you literally have this bokeh at your disposal. You may tweak and modify the background blur in the majority of photographs. I adored this function since it made images that had been archived look their best.

The Pixel camera can make night photographs with light trails and motion very well because it essentially merges images. With native cameras, this is typically not possible and requires additional add-on programmes. You can always switch to a frame without the motion, just like with other photos taken with this camera. Although I was unable to catch any moving subjects that were worthy of being included here, the motion features are excellent for capturing moving scenes.
