Commitment of the UAE to Promoting and Protecting the Rights of People with Special Needs

  The UAE has always been dedicated to promoting and protecting all of its citizens' rights, including those with special needs. The UAE issued Federal Law No. 29 in 2006 to protect and promote the rights of people with disabilities. This law was followed in 2009 by Federal Law No. 14, which reaffirmed the country's commitment to the rights of people with special needs.  The United Arab Emirates ratified the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2010, as well as the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2008. This demonstrated the UAE's willingness to follow international standards and best practices in the treatment of disabled people. The UAE submitted its first periodic report to the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2013, demonstrating its dedication to the cause.
