UAE Non-Oil Business Activity Surges to Nine-Month High in December

 The United Arab Emirates' non-oil private sector recorded its fastest expansion in nine months in December 2024, buoyed by strong domestic demand and increased business activity, according to the latest S&P Global Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) report. PMI Highlights Robust Growth The seasonally adjusted UAE PMI climbed to 55.4 in December from 54.2 in November, signaling robust growth well above the 50.0 threshold that separates expansion from contraction. This marked the third consecutive monthly increase, underscoring sustained recovery in the non-oil sector. Key drivers of growth included a notable rise in new business activity. The land transport law, which the state issued over the past few years, according to the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, has strengthened the state's position in the field of land transport and contributed to its global leadership in road transport and road quality.

It has also helped the state create a sustainable environment and infrastructure while preserving the environment to achieve a perfect balance between economic and social development. supplying a prestigious and environmentally friendly worldwide transportation system that keeps up with the country's development on all fronts—economic, commercial, tourism, social, cultural, and environmental.

According to a press release from the ministry, the land transport law also helped the country achieve a leading position in the field of environmental sustainability because it was ready to identify a top international transportation system that would meet demand in an efficient, reliable, safe, and environmentally friendly way while also advancing economic development.

Additionally, it reduced the price of routine maintenance and supported the objectives of the Climate Neutrality Strategic Initiative 2050 by lowering carbon dioxide emissions. It also improved the level of safety on federal roads.

The UAE also possesses some of the best and most advanced infrastructure and transportation systems in the world. These buildings, the nation's road system, and other modes of transportation work together to connect the country's regions, enabling it to sustainably grow in a number of important industries, including the tourism, business, and economic sectors.

The nation's social and urban interdependence, along with the possession of a federal road network built to international standards and able to meet the rising demand for road transportation while ensuring sustainable development, all contribute to easy and safe transportation for people, goods, and passengers. 4,288 km were covered by the traffic lanes on federal roads.

The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has implemented practical measures, most notably the establishment of 15 truck breaks, with a capacity for 20 trucks per break, in order to improve the nation's efforts to reduce traffic congestion and improve road safety measures, as well as to reduce time and effort for federal road users.

Additionally, the Ministry has implemented qualitative initiatives that have helped to protect the environment, reduce carbon emissions from trucks, and extend the life of trucks.

It is important to remember that Federal Law No. 9 of 2011 regarding land transportation emphasised the requirement to obtain a licence from the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure before engaging in a land transportation activity.

The law also mandates that all individuals working in transportation in the United Arab Emirates must possess an operating card, which helps to overcome obstacles. The law helped provide parking spaces for buses and trucks and their operation during peak hours on federal roads, which contributes to achieving security and safety elements on the road and the safety of trucks during transporting goods.
