Thank God for the Completion and Good Ending

Image
In the journey of life, each chapter presents its unique challenges, obstacles, and rewards. There are moments when we find ourselves overwhelmed, questioning whether we will ever reach the finish line. However, just like the narrative arcs of our favorite stories, there’s something deeply satisfying about a well-executed conclusion—one that feels both rewarding and fulfilling. Whether it's a personal goal, a professional project, or even a cherished movie or book, the feeling of completion is something we all strive for. It brings a sense of peace, knowing that despite the ups and downs, there was a purpose behind every step we took. And when the ending is good, it makes all the struggles worthwhile. The Importance of Completion In a world that moves at such a rapid pace, we often rush through tasks and events, focusing on the next big thing before we’ve even processed the current one. Yet, completing something gives us the chance to reflect. We can look back and appreciate the ...

EU rejects Quran burning in Sweden

Image
The European Union (EU), a political and economic union of 27 member states in Europe, has issued a "strong rejection" of the Quran burning in Sweden, calling it "offensive, disrespectful, and a clear act of provocation." The EU said in a statement, “This act in no way reflects the opinions of the European Union… Manifestations of racism, xenophobia and related intolerance have no place in Europe.”  The statement from the bloc said that the Quran burning was made more deplorable during a time when Muslims across the world were celebrating Eid Al-Adha, one of the main holidays celebrated in Islam.  The EU reportedly said, “EU continues to stand up for freedom of religion or belief and freedom of expression, abroad and at home. It is the time to stand together for mutual understanding and respect and to prevent any further escalation.” The EU stated that it was closely monitoring events in Iraq, where thousands of protestors gathered in front of the Swedish embass...

COVID-19 PANDEMIC: Turkey sealed its gates over a virus

Three weeks ago, the Turkish government announced it was opening its borders with the EU. Now, Turkey has announced that it will be closing its borders once again. The entry of Greek and Bulgarian citizens has been restricted on the land border at the crossings at Ipsala, Uzunkopru and Pazarkule from March 19 by the Turkish Interior Ministry. Turkey, with a population of 80 million, has 1,529 positive cases of COVID-19 and 37 deaths in the country as of Monday, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said. Greece, which has a population of 11 million, has reported 695 Coronavirus cases and 17 deaths. Bulgaria, with a population of 7 million, has 3 deaths and 202 cases. This announcement came after a "Four-way Video Conference" held by the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Emmanuel Macron and British PM Boris Johnson. A violence at the border broke-out after this announcement. It added concerns over high numbers of migran...

EU threatens to drag US, China to WTO in case of trade distortions

European Union warned US and China, who signed a phase-one trade deal on Wednesday, of taking the matter to World Trade Organisation (WTO) in case their deal affected European businesses. On Friday, EU envoy to Beijing Nicolas Chapuis told reporters that the 28-nation bloc would closely observe the impact of the ‘phase one’ trade deal signed between US President Donald Trump and Chinese Vice Premier Liu He. Chapuis said, "In our opinion, quantitative targets are not WTO-compatible if they lead to trade distortions. If it were to be the case, we will go to the WTO to settle this matter." Chapuis added that Chinese foreign ministry gave EU member-nations "formal assurances that in absolutely no way would European businesses be affected by the US-China deal". EU fears that the deal, which eased the ongoing trade war between two of the world’s biggest economies, could be biased in nature. If so, then EU would be within its right to contest the deal as it i...

Johnson likely to break his pledge as Brexit by December 2020 looks too ambitious

UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, who earlier pledged to take Britain out of European Union by the end of year 2020, is likely to break his promise as according to European Union Trade Commissioner, Phil Hogan, Brexit transition period would extend beyond 2020. In an interview with the Irish Times, published Monday, Hogan said, “In the past, we saw the way the prime minister promised to die in the ditch rather than extend the deadline for Brexit , only for him to do just that.” Johnson had previously committed to “die in a ditch” rather than extend an earlier deadline of October 31 to exit the bloc. “I don’t believe Prime Minister Johnson will die in the ditch over the timeline for the future relationship either,” Hogan said. The recently appointed EU Trade Commissioner, who playa key role in the EU-UK talks on their future relationship, said that it was ‘ very odd ’ to impose any restriction on the Brexit extension and that it all seemed more like a political stunt. ...
