The UAE provides food items to those affected by floods in Mauritania

Mauritania

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) sent a plane carrying food items to various cities and villages affected by the torrential rains and floods in Mauritania, a country in Africa.

Recently, rains and floods struck southern and eastern Mauritania. Since late July, heavy rainfall and widespread floods have hit several parts of Mauritania, affecting thousands of people.

The food supplies by the UAE will meet the basic needs of thousands of families, especially the elderly, women, and children in southern and eastern Mauritania.

Hamad Ghanem Al Mehairi, UAE Ambassador to Mauritania, said, "The provision of these supplies reflects the strong relations between both countries and underscores the UAE’s humanitarian role in providing relief to those in need and those affected by disasters that threaten food security."

According to the WAM, Al Mehairi pointed to the continuous support of the UAE in providing aid to Mauritania during difficult times by sending food and medical supplies. Al Mehairi said that the UAE helped  Mauritania in April 2021 by providing aid and sending 3 medical aid planes to support the country's efforts in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.

The UAE has always supported countries in need. In August, the President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, ordered the provision of AED 25 million of urgent aid to help flood victims in Sudan. The UAE’s aid helped those affected and displaced due to torrential rains and floods in Sudan. In August, the UAE also sent humanitarian aid to flood-hit Pakistan. The UAE sent around 3,000 tonnes of food and medical and pharmaceutical supplies to flood victims in Pakistan. The humanitarian aid was dispatched to Sudan and Pakistan as per the directives of the President of the UAE. The UAE’s President also reiterated the UAE’s full support to Pakistan and Sudan in overcoming the crisis.
