To combat food waste during Ramadan, the UAE launches the Food Rescue Program.

The National Food Loss and Waste Initiative, or ne'ma, has started the Food Rescue Programme as part of its 'Count Your ne'ma' campaign in an effort to prevent food waste and advance community welfare during Ramadan.

The project, which is timed to coincide with Zayed Humanitarian Day, aims to encourage small behavioral adjustments in order to reduce food loss and waste while also increasing awareness of the significance of doing so. It also fits with the official goal of the United Arab Emirates to cut food waste in half by 2030.

The Food Rescue Programme helps underprivileged families by preserving and redistributing extra food throughout Ramadan. 300 volunteers actively participated, among them Mariam Almheiri, the head of the Presidential Court's Office of International Affairs

Ne'ma has been able to rescue and distribute 156,227 kg of excess fresh local produce through the program, helping over 5,000 people in Sharjah, Al Ain, and Abu Dhabi. More than 4,500 volunteer hours have been devoted to the initiative's packaging and delivery of the Ne'ma family boxes.

During Ramadan, the Food Rescue Programme embodies the spirit of giving and compassion that characterizes this holy month, acting as a beacon of hope and togetherness. It emphasizes how crucial it is for people to work together to address urgent social challenges and shows how community-driven efforts may have a positive influence.
