Safeguarding the Future: The UAE's Commitment to Protecting the Rights of Children

UAE

The UAE has long been committed to protecting children's rights, putting measures in place to ensure their well-being and development. The country ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1996 and has since enacted a slew of laws and initiatives aimed at protecting children's rights.

Federal Law No. 3 of 2016, also known as the "Wadi-mah Law," is one of the most significant pieces of legislation in this regard. This law protects the child's right to life, survival, and development, as well as all of the rights and freedoms guaranteed by international law. In addition, the law works to protect children from all forms of neglect, exploitation, abuse, and physical and psychological violence.

The UAE established the "Higher Committee for Child Protection" in 2009 and the "Child Protection Center" in 2011 to strengthen child protection measures. These organizations work to keep children safe and provide them with the necessary support and services.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Education has launched the "Child Protection Unit" initiative, with the goal of protecting children from all forms of abuse and neglect, both at school and at home. In addition, the Ministry of Interior has established the "Higher Committee for Child Protection" and the "Ministry of Interior Center for Child Protection" to improve children's safety, security, and protection.

Also the UAE has also launched a number of community-wide campaigns to raise community awareness of children's rights and protect them from abuse and exploitation. The "Together to Prevent Child Abuse" campaign, for example, works to raise awareness of the issue and promote preventive measures.

With the goal of creating a child-friendly environment that guarantees and protects their rights and safety, the UAE launched the "Strategic Plan for the Rights of Children with Disabilities" and the National Strategy for Motherhood and Childhood 2017-2021 in 2017. In collaboration with UNICEF, the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood also released a guide for parents to protect their children from bullying.

Overall, the UAE's dedication to child protection is reflected in the variety of measures and initiatives in place. By putting children's welfare and development first, the UAE is ensuring a brighter future for its youngest citizen
