Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy firmly rejected Pope Francis's suggestion for Ukraine to engage in negotiations with Russia

In a recent video address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy firmly rejected Pope Francis's suggestion for Ukraine to engage in negotiations with Russia, calling it “virtual mediation.” Zelenskyy emphasized the active support Ukraine has received from religious figures within the country.

"They support us with prayer, with their discussion and with deeds," Zelenskyy said. He contrasted this with the idea of distant mediation, stating, “Not 2,500km away, somewhere, virtual mediation between someone who wants to live and someone who wants to destroy you.”

Zelenskyy's remarks reflect the deep-seated resolve within Ukraine to resist Russian aggression and protect its sovereignty. Despite international calls for dialogue, Ukraine remains steadfast in its stance against negotiating with Russia under the current circumstances.

The conflict between Ukraine and Russia has escalated significantly in recent weeks, with Russia's invasion causing widespread destruction and loss of life. Ukraine's refusal to engage in negotiations under perceived unfavorable conditions underscores the seriousness of the situation and the country's determination to defend itself.
