Netflix Global Stream of Screen Actors Guild Awards Marks Historic Shift

The Screen Actors Guild Awards made history this year as the event was streamed globally on Netflix for the first time in its 30-year history. This move is expected to boost viewership and prestige for the awards show, which is typically seen as a significant indicator for the Academy Awards.

The ceremony, attended by Hollywood actors and members of Sag-Aftra, the union representing about 120,000 performers, including A-list stars, took place in Los Angeles. It was the first time members had gathered after their months-long strike, making the event a celebration of their hard-fought gains from studios and a chance to honor their colleagues.

On the red carpet, the mood was festive. Ali Wong, who won an award for her work on the Netflix limited series "Beef," stood out in a sculptural laser-cut Iris van Herpen haute couture gown featuring cascading strands of white diamond cut-outs.

America Ferrera, part of the nominated cast of the summer blockbuster "Barbie," also made a statement with her fashion choice, wearing a black Dior gown with a sheer white off-the-shoulder drape and a diamond choker.
