The Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, has declared the creation of the Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority, a new organization tasked with enhancing the emirate's environmental initiatives. The authority's mandate encompasses the promotion of sustainable practices, preservation of biodiversity, and extension of natural reserves and green areas.

The authority has nominated Ahmed Mohammed bin Thani as its director general. By 2040, the authority, under his direction, hopes to quadruple Dubai's green cover and add sixty percent more protected areas and natural reserves.

The authority has set water resource conservation and the adoption of sustainable waste management procedures as top priority. Additionally, it will support policymakers in creating plans and policies that will guarantee the preservation of biodiversity, lessen the effects of climate change, and improve food security.

The creation of the Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority is consistent with the city-state's overarching environmental objectives, which include achieving a 90% improvement in air quality by 2033 and a shift to 100% sustainable energy by 2050.

Dubai's Crown Prince, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, underlined the emirate's dedication to emerging as a global leader in sustainable urban development and one of the greenest cities in the world. By 2033, Dubai wants to be in the top 10 cities in the world for resource and environmental sustainability. ..
