UAE medics evacuated from Gaza return home safely

Six volunteer medics from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were evacuated from Gaza, a Palestinian exclave on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea, on Thursday.

The medics returned safely to the UAE after fleeing the Gaza strip after Israeli air strikes pounded the enclave on Saturday.

The latest strikes between Israeli forces and militant groups in Gaza led to the killing of 33 Palestinians. An intense bombardment began on May 9 at the Palestinian exclave. It injured at least 147 people.

Two Israelis were also killed in the latest violence between Israel and the Hamas militant group in Gaza. Reportedly, a ceasefire brokered by Egypt helped to calm the situation.

Earlier, a team of UAE medics went to the Gaza Strip to deliver paediatric care and training for emergency doctors in the enclave. They wanted to help people affected by the conflict in the region. UAE medics were delivering vital care to children. However, the UAE medics were unable to leave the place due to violence.

Dr Marc Sinclair said, “We were with a team of six medical professionals, and on the second to last day of our visit, rockets were fired from Israel. We were stuck for three days watching rockets fly from our hospital accommodation.” He revealed that the medics had to cancel important appointments due to the violence and they were unable to go home.

According to The National, Dr Marc Sinclair works at Mediclinic Parkview Hospital in Dubai in UAE. He often visits the Gaza Strip to treat children.

On Saturday, the UAE doctor received a call to board an ambulance to be evacuated from the Gaza Strip. He said that the motivation to work was purely humanitarian.

Earlier, he also co-founded the Little Wings Foundation to provide medical assistance to children in the Middle East and North Africa region.
