UAE Extends Lifeline to Sudanese Refugees in Uganda’s Kiryandongo Camp

 The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has reinforced its reputation as a global leader in humanitarian aid with the distribution of 30,000 food baskets to Sudanese refugees in Uganda’s Kiryandongo camp. This initiative, benefitting nearly 100,000 displaced individuals, represents the second phase of the UAE’s sustained humanitarian efforts, which commenced in April 2024. A Lifeline for Refugees The Kiryandongo camp, home to thousands of Sudanese refugees who fled the ongoing crisis in their homeland, has seen its inhabitants struggle with food insecurity and basic needs. The UAE’s food aid has provided a critical lifeline, addressing immediate food shortages and offering hope to a vulnerable population. The distribution event was overseen by UAE Ambassador to Uganda, Abdullah Al Shamsi, who was joined by Ugandan officials and civil society representatives. UAE allocates 70% of its $100 million pledge to the United Nations

One of the major donors of humanitarian aid to Sudan and Africa, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) donated seventy percent of the $100 million pledge it made in April during its participation in the International Humanitarian Conference on Sudan to UN agencies and relief and humanitarian groups.  

 UAE includes providing all types of assistance, especially food and health assistance, protecting women and children, and providing livelihoods and shelter in emergencies, which confirms its commitment to addressing various aspects of the humanitarian crisis in Sudan. 

Her Excellency Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation, said: “The UAE’s aid to Sudan and neighboring countries comes within the framework of the wise   

“Within the framework of providing medical services to Sudanese refugees in neighboring countries, the UAE has built two field hospitals in Amdgrass and Abéché, Chad, to support our fellow Sudanese refugees. Their services extend to all civilians, regardless of nationality, age, gender, or political affiliation. The number of More than 29,378 cases have been received by the hospital in Amdgrass since its opening.
