UAE Non-Oil Business Activity Surges to Nine-Month High in December

 The United Arab Emirates' non-oil private sector recorded its fastest expansion in nine months in December 2024, buoyed by strong domestic demand and increased business activity, according to the latest S&P Global Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) report. PMI Highlights Robust Growth The seasonally adjusted UAE PMI climbed to 55.4 in December from 54.2 in November, signaling robust growth well above the 50.0 threshold that separates expansion from contraction. This marked the third consecutive monthly increase, underscoring sustained recovery in the non-oil sector. Key drivers of growth included a notable rise in new business activity. The new orders subindex rose sharply to 59.3 in December from 58.0 in the previous month, reflecting strong domestic demand. During the G7 Summit, the President of the UAE has requested for joint measures pertaining to Artificial Intelligence and Energy.

 

The UAE's commitment to sustainable development and technological innovation is emphasized by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's rece participation in the G7 Summit Session on artificial intelligence and energy, which was hosted by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Dubbed “Energy and Artificial Intelligence / Africa and the Mediterranean Region”, the session offered a platform for world leaders to deliberate on urgent challenges and opportunities in the sphere of renewable energies and ICT 

In his speech, Sheikh Mohamed emphasized how significant current global challenges, especially in the energy sector, affect the Middle East and Africa. He underscored the need for joint efforts and collaboration to address them, while also using new technologies like artificial intelligence if we are to provide sustainable solutions.

Hoping that the G7 summit will usher in a responsible involvement with emerging technologies that keeps development gaps from growing wider or the world getting more divided, the President has expressed optimism that they may be used as a channel through which sustainable growth, safety and prosperity could be achieved by any human being anywhere.
