The terrorist assault in Jerusalem that left a number of people dead and numerous others hurt has been severely condemned by the UAE.
The UAE has expressed its strong condemnation
of these criminal acts in a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and
International Cooperation (MoFAIC), as well as its unwavering opposition to all
acts of terrorism and violence that threaten security and stability and go
against fundamental human values.
The ministry also sent its deepest sympathies
and condolences to the Israeli government, its citizens, and the relatives of
the victims of this horrific murder. It also wished everyone who was hurt a
swift recovery.
In a significant uptick in violence that
followed a deadly raid in the West Bank the day before, a Palestinian gunman
reportedly killed seven people on Friday outside an east Jerusalem synagogue.
The shooting in Neve Yaakov, a Jewish settler
neighbourhood in Israeli-occupied east Jerusalem, happened as worldwide appeals
for calm grew following an earlier exchange of missile fire between Israeli and
Palestinian terrorists in the Gaza Strip.
According to the police, "a terrorist
came at a synagogue in the Neve Yaakov boulevard in Jerusalem at 8.15 pm (1815
GMT) and then started shooting at a number of people in the area."
After a shooting and chase involving the
police and the terrorist, the terrorist was neutralised and later declared
dead, according to the police, who also stated that "seven innocent people
were slain."
The shooter is a resident of east Jerusalem
who is 21 years old, according to the police.
A total of 10 gunshot victims were reported by
the Magen David Adom emergency response team, including a 70-year-old male and
a 14-year-old boy.
Israel Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai
described the incident to the media as "one of the deadliest attacks we
have encountered in recent years."
