The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), a non-governmental organisation founded by the British film industry, has given the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer film Pathaan a 12A rating, which means anyone aged 12 or over can go and see the film at the theatre.
BBFC also revealed a few spoilers from the action film. According to BBFC, some scenes contain violence, sex and threats. Reportedly, Pathaan film revolves around an undercover cop and an ex-con, who are working together "to prevent the release of a deadly synthetic virus.”
BBFC warned about injury detail, sex, threat and horror, and violence in the film. The BBFC said, "There is the occasional sight of bloody facial injuries and also blood from a gunshot wound in the aftermath of violence.” BBFC also said, "There is a moderate sex reference in which a woman rubs her bare knee against a man's clothed crotch.”
According to the BBFC website, "There are shootings, stabbings, strangling and explosions.” The BBFC website has also indicated that one scene has been cut from the film.
In India, the film received a UA certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification. UA certification means parental guidance is required for viewers under the age of 12. The film also made ten cuts upon suggestions from the CBFC. Reportedly, CBFC has revised the 'obscene song' and 'lewd words' in the film.
The film also stars successful Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone and actor John Abraham. It is directed by Siddharth Anand and distributed by Yash Raj Films. The action film is set to release on January 25, Wednesday. It will be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages. It is set to be released across India on 5,000 screens.
The film had been facing backlash for featuring actress Padukone in a saffron bikini in the song 'Besharam Rang'. Gujarat VHP withdrew its protest against Pathaan after the revision of the song.
