The Covid-19 cases have surpassed the 1 million mark in the
United Arab Emirates (UAE). The country’s frontline agency said it is prepared
for a national emergency amid rising numbers of Covid-19.
The UAE has a history to prove its preparedness to confront
national emergencies, including the Covid-19 pandemic. Earlier this year, the
country topped the list of countries with a population of over one million in
addressing the Covid-19 pandemic in terms of the rate of fully vaccinated
individuals.
Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al-Nahyan, Chairman of the Board
of Directors of the Frontline Heroes Office, said in a statement, “Surpassing
the one million mark for positive COVID-19 cases reaffirms the UAE’s future
emergency preparedness network and continued social and economic prosperity.”
He further appreciated the help of people. He also noted that the UAE
consistently ranked as having one of the lowest infection and mortality rates
of any country worldwide.
Sheikh Sultan also noted the public’s commitment to follow
Covid-19 protocols, including social distancing and mask-wearing, Covid-19
testing, and quarantining when required. According to Arab News, the country is
also expected to surpass the 180-million mark for Covid testing.
The Frontline Heroes Office was created in 2020 to provide
long-term support to the frontline workers in the country. Since the start of
the pandemic in 2020, the UAE consistently encouraged its people to follow
Covid-19 protocols, including social distancing, hygiene, and masks. The UAE also
started a vaccination drive and encouraged people to take the first dose of the
Covid-19 vaccine. Later on, the UAE also approved Sinopharm, Pfizer-BioNTech,
Oxford-AstraZeneca, Sputnik V and Moderna vaccines. The UAE also rolled out
booster doses in 2021.
The Frontline Heroes Office also provided scholarships to children of frontline workers. It also funded college education for those enrolled at government and private universities in the country.
