UAE Non-Oil Business Activity Surges to Nine-Month High in December

 The United Arab Emirates' non-oil private sector recorded its fastest expansion in nine months in December 2024, buoyed by strong domestic demand and increased business activity, according to the latest S&P Global Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) report. PMI Highlights Robust Growth The seasonally adjusted UAE PMI climbed to 55.4 in December from 54.2 in November, signaling robust growth well above the 50.0 threshold that separates expansion from contraction. This marked the third consecutive monthly increase, underscoring sustained recovery in the non-oil sector. Key drivers of growth included a notable rise in new business activity. UAE President orders $100-million relief fund for earthquake victims in Syria and Turkey

The President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has ordered the provision of $100 million to help earthquake victims in Syria and Turkey.

The UAE’s initiative includes US$50 million each for Turkey and Syria. The relief fund is the UAE's humanitarian efforts on the international stage and its commitment to providing humanitarian assistance to brotherly and friendly societies.

Under the directive of the President, the UAE has already provided assistance to the sisterly Syrian Arab Republic and the friendly Republic of Turkey. The UAE has sent a search-and-rescue team to help those affected by the earthquake in Turkey. A field hospital has also been established in Turkey by the UAE to help earthquake victims.

UAE's Joint Operations Command of the Ministry of Defence also launched the“Gallant Knight / 2” operation to provide assistance to earthquake victims in Syria and Turkey. UAE’s Armed Forces, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation; and the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) would participate in the operation to help people in both countries.

Major General Saleh al-Ameri, commander of joint operations at the UAE's defence ministry, said that around seven flights have been planned to the quake-hit countries, including two to Damascus, the capital of Syria.

Earlier, the UAE also pledged $13.6 million in humanitarian aid to Syria. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Prime Minister of the UAE, said that the aid would help people affected by the earthquake in Syria.

The UAE President also offered his condolences to his Syrian and Turkish counterparts after the deadly earthquakes wreaked havoc in the two countries. He also pledged to offer assistance to Turkey and Syria in order to mitigate the impact of the earthquake.

The UAE has always been a pioneer in sending humanitarian assistance to countries in need. The humanitarian aid to Turkey and Syria reiterates UAE's deep principles and belief in humanity.

The UAE was among the first country to help Turkey and Syria after powerful earthquakes caused havoc in these two countries.

In recent years, the UAE also pledged to unite with other countries to establish peace.
