UAE leads the way in shaping a sustainable future at World Government Summit

The World Government Summit (WGS) that concluded on Wednesday has once again put the UAE on the world stage as a visionary nation that looks towards the future and aims to be a force for good for humanity. The three-day event was attended by several heads of state and ministers, 10,000 thought leaders, government officials, and experts from 80 global organizations, all united by the common goal of shaping future governments and improving people’s lives.

One of the highlights of the summit was the call to adopt artificial intelligence (AI) while stressing the importance of regulating it. Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and WGS Chairman, highlighted that AI adoption is inevitable and not optional, while Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technology, emphasized the need for technology to be inclusive.

However, the adoption of AI has also raised concerns about its regulation, with musician and technology entrepreneur will.i.am fearing a future where he would receive a call from “something that looks like my mom, but is not my mom.” This highlights the importance of regulating AI to ensure its ethical use.

Sustainability was also a key focus of the summit, with the hard reality highlighted by Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, President-Designate, COP28, that global emissions must fall by 43% by 2030. The UAE has launched the Industrial Technology Transformation Index to drive digitalization and sustainability in industry, and Dubai has announced a project that includes a feasibility study for building a hydrogen fueling station.

It is commendable that the UAE, through the World Government Summit, is taking the lead in addressing global challenges and pushing for sustainable solutions. The summit’s call to adopt AI while regulating it and the focus on sustainability are critical steps towards shaping future governments that prioritize the well-being of their citizens.

The praise by actor and UN Goodwill Ambassador Idris Elba for Dubai’s incredible story and the signing of over 80 agreements during the summit only reinforces the UAE’s position as a visionary nation that seeks to drive progress and development for the betterment of humanity.

In conclusion, the World Government Summit has once again demonstrated the UAE’s commitment to being a global leader in shaping the future and promoting sustainable development. As we move forward, we should continue to prioritize ethical and inclusive use of AI and work towards reducing global emissions to secure a more sustainable future.
