France will provide free condoms to young people

At an effort to decrease teen pregnancies, French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday that condoms would be made freely available in pharmacies for persons aged 18 to 25.

In western France's Fontaine-le-Comte, a suburb of Poitiers, Macron remarked during a health discussion with young people, "It's a modest revolution for contraception."

In order to prevent young women from stopping using contraception because they cannot afford it, the government expanded a programme aimed at under-18s this year and started providing free birth control to all women under the age of 25.

In order to combat the spread of AIDS and other STDs, condoms are already covered by the country's healthcare system when recommended by a doctor or midwife.
