Johnny Depp-Amber Heard Trial Inspires Film; Twitter Signs Petition To Stop Release

Johnny Depp-Amber

Hollywood actor Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard's trial is set to be adapted into a movie. ‘Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial Film’ is set to be released on Tubi, an American over-the-top content platform. However, a clip from the movie has caused outrage on social media, with many signing petitions to stop the release of the movie.
According to netizens, the film shows a dramatised version of the Depp-Heard trial. They claimed that the trial was further sensationalised into a movie. A petition has been launched on Twitter, asking Tubi to not release the film. Twitter users also argued that the actors of the movie appeared “miscast" in the context of physical appearances.
The film features Mark Hapka as Depp and Megan Davis as Heard. Melissa Marty plays the role of Camille Vasquez, Depp's lawyer. Mary Carrig plays the role of Heard's lawyer, Elaine Bredehoft.
The petition reads, “Given the sensitive material discussed in this case, including the dynamics of abuse, spousal rape, domestic violence, domestic abuse and substance abuse, there is a growing concern that the rush to release the film is focused more on controversy than on care and understanding.” The petition on Twitter also argued that the trial is not a completely settled matter.
The film is written by Guy Nicolucci and directed by Sara Lohman. The executive producers of the film are Angie Day, Marianne C. Wunch, Brittany Clemons, Hannah Pillemer and Fernando Szew.
