Mariah Carey Sued Over ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ Song

Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey has been sued for £16 million ($20 million) because of copyright issues with her christmas single track song 'All I Want For Christmas Is You.'

The festive iconic hit was published in 1994, but a musician has now stated that his song of the same name was the inspiration for hers.

 Andy Stone & Copyright Violations

Andy Stone, who claims he co-wrote and released a track with the same title a few years ago, is suing her for copyright violation, as per reports.

Mariah and her staff, according to Andy, never requested for approval to use that title. He intends to sue the singer for at least £16 million in compensation.

The single is reported to have earned the celebrity £40 million over the Christmas season last year.

Mariah's christmas single contains a lot of grief for her, as it recalls painful events from her past.

 Statement by Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey talked about her childhood & told,

"I was like, ‘When I grow up, I am never going to let that happen. I am going to make Christmas perfect every year.

I have always had such an emotional connection to Christmas. It wasn’t about the gifts, but the hopefulness of the holiday season.

I wanted to express that spirit and make a song that made me feel happy during the holidays.”

 She added further,

“It was inspired by songs from the 50s and 60s, the ones that you just couldn’t help but be happy whenever you heard them.

It means so much to me to be able to sing that song with people all over the world and to share experiences with people that have made this song part of their lives."
