UAE Honors Space Pioneers for National Contributions on Union Day

 As part of its Union Day celebrations, the UAE paid tribute to a group of exceptional individuals whose groundbreaking contributions have solidified the nation’s position as a global leader in space exploration. The recognition ceremony highlighted the UAE’s unwavering commitment to scientific advancement and its vision of empowering future generations through pioneering achievements in the space sector.



Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, these individuals were honored for their remarkable efforts in shaping the UAE’s journey in space exploration and inspiring a legacy of innovation.

Recognizing National Icons

The ceremony celebrated the achievements of several key figures in the UAE’s space sector, whose dedication and innovation have propelled the nation into the global spotlight:

  • First Class Space Medal:
    Awarded to astronauts Sultan Al Neyadi and Hazza Al Mansouri.

    • Sultan Al Neyadi captured global attention with his six-month mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS), becoming a symbol of perseverance and innovation.
    • Hazza Al Mansouri, the UAE’s first astronaut, made history with his journey to the ISS, inspiring a generation to dream beyond the stars.
  • Second Class Space Medal:
    Recognitions were extended to leading figures behind the scenes of the UAE’s space missions:

    • Salem Al Marri, Director General of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre, for his strategic leadership in advancing the UAE’s space ambitions.
    • Dr. Hanan Al Suwaidi, the first female astronaut doctor in the UAE, for her pioneering contributions to astronaut health and mission readiness.
    • Adnan Al Rais, Assistant Director General of the Space Sector at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre, for his instrumental role in developing the UAE’s space missions and programs.
