Years of efforts finally show result as UAE cracks a new treatment plan for breast cancer

The United Arab Emirates has once again excelled in the field of medical science with its latest treatment plan for Breast Cancer.

The officials have found unique breast cancer mutations in Arab women and that will help them and other medical professionals to deliver personalised treatment to these women which will also be essential in increasing survival rates.

The remarkable study, which included 87 women from across the region, has been concluded after five years of hard work. The study started in 2016 and was only recently concluded by the experts.

The two companies invested in knowing more about the information after genetic mutations were detected in women from countries like the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Sudan, Syria and Tunisia. The experts analysed that Arab women had a different genetic mutation when compared to the rest of wetsern countries when talking about breast cancer.

The basis of the treatment plan is dominated by genetic practices and that could affect the way women respond to the treatment. “This research shows the UAE is making strong steps forward in the war on breast cancer,”Prof Humaid Al Shamsi, president of the Emirates Cancer Society.

Al Shamsi is the one who is responsible for having led this breakthrough treatment plan that would also help future generations to come up with specialised procedures. The medical professional also stated that when the study was done, they found out that some of the women responded better to chemotherapy while others required a targeted type of immunotherapy.

The treatment plan of each woman will be different and it will be specific according to the genes that the doctors are dealing with during this time. “Some respond better to chemotherapy, while others may require targeted therapy or immunotherapy,” stressed the medical expert.

It is a huge deal for the UAE especially because Breast cancer is the most common tumour found in women in the nation. The officials were engaged with studying about this tumor and gene mutation and finally saw a breakthrough development, further highlighting the competence of the UAE in the healthcare sector.
