UAE sends 47 tonnes of medical supplies to Tunisia, highlights close friendship

Continuing with its efforts of helping vulnerable and needy countries around the world, the United Arab Emirates has sent 47 tonnes of medical aid to help Tunisia combat the dangers of the coronavirus.

On Wednesday, two cargo planes carrying medical supplies for the country arrived in Tunisia. The supplies included respirators and oxygen cylinders which will be a huge help to Tunisia especially with the current circumstances.

This effort highlights the special bond between the UAE and Tunisia and their common motive to meet regional goals. Not only this but the UAE is also extremely concerned about the healthcare situation in Tunisia and hence is monitoring the pandemic situation in the country. Rashid Mohammed Al Mansouri, UAE Ambassador to Tunisia also highlighted UAE’s efforts towards Tunisia.

The UAE has exceptional relations with Tunisia and the aid help only highlights this further. There were a series of talks between the leaders of the two countries and the ambassador stressed that it is the result of the ongoing communication between the Tunisian President and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Zayed Al Nahyan, who is also the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and Tunisian president Kais Saied have been conducting report exchanges and Saied has made sure to keep the UAE in loop and hence the UAE has stepped up its efforts to support Tunisia by continuously monitoring the situation.

The UAE leadership is committed towards not only helping the regional neighbours but also other countries who are struggling to control the spread of the virus by sending aids and essentials to them. Till now the country has helped 135 countries by sending 2,200 tonnes of aid to them.

As for Tunisia, the UAE has been supportive since the pandemic erupted. In November last year, 11 metric tonnes of medical supplies along with equipment was sent to Tunisia from the UAE which was followed by 500,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccines in July.

Since the start of the pandemic, the UAE has been playing an active role in supplying medical aids and equipment as well as the Covid-19 vaccine doses to help curb the spread of the dreaded virus.
