UAE’s 2024 Humanitarian Outreach: A Lifeline for Millions

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) solidified its global reputation as a beacon of humanitarian aid and diplomacy in 2024. Guided by the visionary leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the nation demonstrated unwavering commitment to supporting vulnerable communities worldwide, offering relief, hope, and sustainable solutions.

Expanding Aid in Crisis Zones

The UAE emerged as a leading donor of humanitarian aid in 2024, contributing over $788.8 million, as reported by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). It ranked as the 9th largest donor globally, providing critical support to regions grappling with conflict and crises.

  • Gaza Aid: The UAE became Gaza’s second-largest donor, allocating $396.6 million. Beyond immediate relief, the nation executed initiatives like "Operation Chivalrous Knight 3" to bolster infrastructure, medical care, and capacity building. By the year’s end, over 2,254 Palestinian patients and their families had received advanced medical treatment in the UAE. Field hospitals treated over 50,000 cases, while a floating medical ship stationed in Egypt supported another 8,600 patients.

  • Lebanon Support: With $121.8 million in aid, the UAE launched the "UAE Stands with Lebanon" campaign, delivering over 2,000 tonnes of supplies and providing education support to 40,000 students through the Digital School initiative.

  • Sudan and Chad Relief: Addressing displacement and hunger, the UAE pledged $100 million for Sudan and its neighbors and contributed $10.25 million to UN projects in Chad, prioritizing support for refugee women.

Humanitarian Innovation and Legacy

2024 witnessed the launch of transformative initiatives reflecting the UAE's commitment to sustainable development:

  • Zayed Humanitarian Legacy Initiative: Backed by $20 billion, this program marked the 20th anniversary of the UAE's founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. It included the UAE Global Hospitals Programme, which pledged $150 million to build hospitals in underserved regions over the next decade.

  • Mothers' Endowment Campaign: Aimed at global education, this Dh1 billion initiative launched during Ramadan focused on empowering mothers and children.

  • Erth Zayed Philanthropies: Consolidating impactful projects like the Zayed Sustainability Prize, this entity streamlines efforts in health, education, energy, and climate resilience.

Diplomatic Breakthroughs

In addition to humanitarian aid, the UAE played a pivotal role in fostering global diplomacy. Notable achievements included mediating a prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine on December 30, which secured the release of 150 detainees from each side. This brought the total number of detainees exchanged through UAE mediation to 2,484.

At the United Nations, the UAE delivered over 60 statements advocating for peaceful resolutions, protection of civilians, and gender empowerment. Its leadership in multilateral diplomacy highlighted its commitment to constructive dialogue and global stability.

A Global Leader in Compassion and Action

The UAE’s humanitarian efforts in 2024 underscore its unwavering dedication to addressing global challenges through aid, innovation, and diplomacy. By prioritizing long-term solutions alongside immediate relief, the UAE has redefined its role as a global partner for peace, stability, and prosperity.

Looking Ahead

As the UAE embarks on a new year, its vision remains clear: to extend its principles of shared humanity, foster global partnerships, and create lasting positive change for millions in need.
