UAE and Albania Forge Strategic Partnerships to Advance Sustainable Development and Renewable Energy

 In a significant stride toward enhancing bilateral ties, the UAE President, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, hosted Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama at Qasr Al Shati in Abu Dhabi. Their meeting, held on the sidelines of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2025, showcased the growing collaboration between the two nations across multiple sectors.



Strengthening UAE-Albania Relations

During the discussions, Sheikh Mohamed and Prime Minister Rama explored opportunities to deepen cooperation in economic, investment, and development fields. They emphasized a mutual commitment to fostering shared growth and sustainable development, with a focus on benefiting the people of both nations.

The talks also highlighted the agenda of ADSW, underscoring its role in promoting international dialogue on sustainability, climate action, and the transition to clean energy.

Major Agreements Signed

The meeting witnessed the signing of a significant agreement to establish ALBtrace, a joint venture company aimed at providing innovative financial solutions for the Albanian government. This initiative will enhance oversight of taxable products and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. The agreement was signed by Khaled Mohammed Balama, Governor of the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE), and Delina Ibrahimaj, Albanian Minister of Finance.

Groundbreaking Tripartite Energy Partnership

In a parallel development, the UAE joined forces with Albania and Italy to sign a tripartite strategic partnership framework focusing on renewable energy and energy infrastructure. This collaboration, announced during ADSW, marks a major step forward in addressing global energy challenges and boosting sustainable development in the Mediterranean region.

Key highlights of the agreement include:

  • Deployment of large-scale renewable energy projects in Albania, including solar, wind, and hybrid solutions with battery storage.
  • Establishment of a cross-border electricity transmission interconnection linking Albania and Italy to enhance energy security and regional cooperation.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and COP28 President; Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, Italian Minister of the Environment and Energy Security; and Belinda Balluku, Albanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy.

A Vision for Global Sustainability

Sheikh Mohamed expressed the UAE’s commitment to advancing global cooperation on sustainable energy solutions, inspired by the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. He noted that these initiatives align with the UAE’s leadership in promoting renewable energy and addressing climate change.

Dr. Sultan Al Jaber described the agreement as pivotal in creating a "new era of global interconnectivity," which will help meet renewable energy targets, drive economic growth, and improve energy access worldwide.

Prime Minister Rama lauded the UAE’s efforts in fostering international collaboration and emphasized Albania’s dedication to advancing renewable energy and economic development.
