UAE Extends Lifeline to Sudanese Refugees in Uganda’s Kiryandongo Camp

 The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has reinforced its reputation as a global leader in humanitarian aid with the distribution of 30,000 food baskets to Sudanese refugees in Uganda’s Kiryandongo camp. This initiative, benefitting nearly 100,000 displaced individuals, represents the second phase of the UAE’s sustained humanitarian efforts, which commenced in April 2024. A Lifeline for Refugees The Kiryandongo camp, home to thousands of Sudanese refugees who fled the ongoing crisis in their homeland, has seen its inhabitants struggle with food insecurity and basic needs. The UAE’s food aid has provided a critical lifeline, addressing immediate food shortages and offering hope to a vulnerable population. The distribution event was overseen by UAE Ambassador to Uganda, Abdullah Al Shamsi, who was joined by Ugandan officials and civil society representatives. President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan welcomed President Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to the Beach Palace for a high-level discussion, underscoring the UAE's commitment to forging strong partnerships with African states. The discussions, which covered a wide range of themes, centered on increasing bilateral collaboration in a variety of industries.

One of the primary topics of discussion was the diversification and promotion of investments in the developmental, economic, commercial, and renewable energy sectors. Both presidents discussed matters of mutual interest, highlighting the UAE and DRC's strong bilateral relations.
The summit focused on the UAE's strategic approach to economic development and international engagement. By partnering with the DRC, the UAE hopes to contribute to the region's progress and stability. The relationship between the two countries is intended to yield real benefits for both nations while also strengthening ties between the UAE and African countries.
