The Republic of Azerbaijan gained independence on December 26, 1991, and this was acknowledged by the United Arab Emirates. On September 1st, 1992, diplomatic ties between the UAE and the Republic of Azerbaijan were established. Azerbaijan received an accreditation from the UAE ambassador in Ankara in June of 1994.

The possibility for UAE businesses to invest in the tourism industry of Azerbaijan was also discussed during the meetings of the tourism representatives. The regularity of these flights demonstrates the high demand for and value of convenient travel links between the two countries.
