UAE next satellite developed using 3D painting

The United Arab Emirates plans to launch the next satellite for which it is using 3D printing technology. Through this technology, engineers at Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre in Dubai are creating parts of a prototype of MBZ-Sat.

The scientists are using this cutting edge technology to ensure successful results from the launch of its satellite MBZ-Sat which will be set to hit the sky in 2023. The team involved in preparations of jet setting the satellite is focusing on replicating the design of the Earth observation so that it can find out exact parts to assemble it before investing much on manufacturing the real thing.

Dubai Media Office took to twitter to share the update on the satellite development. It said, “Update on MBZ-SAT, the 100% Emirati-made satellite: @MBRSpaceCentre engineers continue development work, recently using a 3D printer to print parts for a prototype of the satellite at MBRSC's space technology laboratories.”

The satellite will reportedly weigh around 700 kilograms, Scientist and UAE officials hope that this satellite will enhance growth of the UAE’s knowledge based economy. This time, most of the parts of the satellite will be developed by UAE itself and further on it will be put to benefit civilians and for other commercial use.

Through the knowledge gathered, it will be used to analyse different aspects and will also help in monitoring the environment, Navigation needs will also be benefited by this. Major global concerns like natural disasters will also be predictable in advance so that it contributes to planning relief efforts.

The project was announced by the Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, in October. He said, “We approved building the new satellite MBZ-Sat, the region’s most technologically advanced in the civil and commercial sector, to be 100 per cent designed by Emiratis.”

After KhalifaSat, this is the second time that the satellite was fully developed by UAE engineers. KhalifaSat was launched by Japan last year.
