The United Arab Emirates has dispatched its 18th aid aircraft carrying 40 tonnes of essential medical supplies to Lebanon as part of the “UAE Stands with Lebanon” campaign. This ongoing initiative, launched in early October, aims to provide critical food, medical, and shelter supplies to the Lebanese population, who continue to face severe hardships due to ongoing conflict. In close collaboration with international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), UAE humanitarian organizations are playing a pivotal role in delivering life-saving aid to Lebanon’s vulnerable communities. Second dose of covid-19 vaccination started in Dubai

Dubai is leading the way to vaccinate its entire population ahead of schedule as it has already started administering the second dose of Covid-19 vaccines--Pfizer-BioNTech-- to its residents.

The Dubai Health Authority announced on Thursday that the healthcare centres have initiated the administration of the second dose of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine against the dreaded coronavirus. DHA confirmed the news through a tweet where it urged people who have taken prior appointments for the vaccination to reach their respective centres on time.

Dubai started the vaccination drive last year in December where it offered two vaccines--Pfizer and Sinopharm--free of cost to its residents. It was only a matter of time that people started registering to get vaccine shots and soon it completed the first round of shots in a month.

DHA is taking all the necessary measures to ensure the safety of the covid-19 vaccine. After approving the two vaccines, the United Arab Emirates is also finalising a call on the Russian human adenovirus-based vaccine--Sputnik V. The trials for these vaccines are still underway and only after ensuring complete safety, DHA will approve it in coming days.

The health authority has already listed out people who should exclude themselves from receiving vaccines which include, pregnant mothers, children below 18 years of age, nursing mothers and people who have immunodeficiency diseases.

Earlier it was reported that the UAE is moving way ahead of its schedule to vaccinate 50 percent of its population. The health officials said that people are trusting the vaccination campaign and are readily coming forward to receive the vaccine shot. Some health centres were also found to be booked till March.

The vaccination drive currently in place in the emirati nation comes second in the world behind Israel’s vaccination campaign in terms of administering vaccines on a per day basis. The situation has led to many clinics setting up a tent outside its premises to ensure that people continue to follow Covid-19 norms.  The vaccination against coronavirus is being administered in two doses within the gap of three weeks. In Dubai, both thesevaccines are made available free of cost to residents who are making a call on the DHA hotline, meant especially to book their inoculation appointments.
