UAE uses tech to contribute to its healthcare needs

As the United Arab Emirates moves towards transforming its healthcare system, the way to achieving this goal takes a technology based turn that will be aimed at strengthening the treatment model of the nation.

The world has seen nearly a year of the coronavirus pandemic that left the healthcare systems throughout the world surrounded by questions. But some nations have already started to work for bettering these healthcare shortcomings and look at the future in a more positive way.

The UAE is among these nations. The nation is looking at amplifying facilities available in the healthcare sector following this pandemic to make sure the citizens are well-rounded off with what is available in the country.

With the outbreak of the virus, it has been found that the healthcare industry is swiftly shifting towards value based care while hand in hand involving technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, the internet of things and data analytics. These new developments are to make sure that patients are monitored with utmost precision.

One of the senior healthcare officials, Dr Azad Moopen who is the Founder Chairman and Managing Director of Aster DM Healthcare said, “The healthcare delivery model of diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and monitoring has seen a major shift during the pandemic and this shift can be attributed to the immediate need for patients to access healthcare in a safe environment and for healthcare providers to ensure that they continue to provide the best possible care to their patients and customers.”

He then explained that involvement of technology has greatly helped to curb the covid-19 infection rates through ways like digital contract tracing that helps in identifying and isolating potential coronavirus patients from further passing on the infection.

The country plans to use artificial intelligence, 5G and other upcoming technologies as confirmed by the National Covid-19 Crisis Recovery Management and Governance Committee.  This is being done to not ensure proper management of these cases but also to help sectors recover from their financial losses that they suffered due to coronavirus.

Highlighting the importance of AI and other tech related measures being used for controlling coronavirus, Hein Van Eck, Chief Strategy Officer at Mediclinic Middle East said, “These solutions will continue to provide increasingly more sophisticated and personalised health assessments and will be able to take into account the full medical history where available, as well as data from an even broader range of sensors, devices and other sources.”

Even the UAE’s more reliable and largest healthcare network, Abu Dhabi Healthcare Services (SEHA), has also shown tremendous interest in leading a tech based path. This healthcare service is working on developing smart electronic medical record )EMRs) that help contextualise data. Through this, a range of diseases will be treated including acute kidney injuries.
