UAE ranked first in the region for having best telecom sector quality

The United Arab Emirates has been named to have the best telecom sector quality and evolution in the region while coming second globally for the second consecutive year. The nation has been living up to its goal of excelling in every sector and as the end of 2020 nears, this addition to the list of achievements shows that it is in the right direction.

The achievements comes after the emirati nation successfully actively ‘uses the telecommunications/ICTs’ under which the efficiency and the evolution of this sector is measured. The details revealed are a part of the Global Competitiveness Report issued by the World Economic Forum.

But the credit for this achievement goes to the combined effort of those who initiated this idea and those who implemented it. The efforts on the ground were administered by the Telecommunications and Digital Regulatory Authority (TDRA) who very efficiently implemented the directives and vision of the UAE’ wise leadership due which now the modern innovations in the telecommunication sector are prospering.

This is even more commendable when it comes to using the 5G network where the UAE stands at number one in the Arab region while fourth globally. As per a report in the news agency WAM, the credit for this goes to the mobile operators, who have successfully deployed and operated 5G networks and also continued their work with service providers in the country.

The TDRA Director General, Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, also expressed his views on the matter saying, “"We conclude this year with such proud achievement, emphasising the significance of the ICT sector in the strategic thinking of our wise leadership, based on the belief that spearheading the telecom sector paves the way for excellence and leadership in all various vital sectors, meaning enabling digital transformation and easing conditions for providing AI-based services and solutions, and big data. We have all been walking in the path of development, prosperity and digital knowledge, and today we are moving at a faster pace relying on a highly-advanced digital infrastructure.”

He also added that the private entities along with the government worked in coordination, in team spirit, where they have presented the country with the best creative idea that will take the country forward.

The report further included the detailed analysis of how the countries all around the world dealt with the threat of coronavirus and what was their immediate response. This brought into view how crucial it is for countries to be well-equipped with the telecommunications sector and be active in the digital sector too, as that would impact a country's ability to manage economic changes.

The report concluded with the UAE ranking fourth globally in the ‘digital legal frameworks’ while efficiently handling the pandemic. Not only this but the UAE also ranked number one in 12 different competitive parameters that are responsible for measuring the quality and development of telecommunications sectors all throughout the world.
