UAE restarts issuing permit for workers travelling from abroad

The United Arab Emirates has started issuing work permits to those working abroad in the UAE for the first time in seven months.

Apart from the work permits for those working in government and semi government sectors, permit has also been issued for those looking to join sectors like healthcare, transport and sanitation in the country. Along with them, the families looking for domestic workers can process the permits.

The announcement was made on Monday by the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship with the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority.

The work permits for those living in the country was already renewed in the earlier announcement. Assuring work permits for Housemainda has also been included in the guidelines issued by the authorities.

Issuing work permits will make it easier for people looking to work in the country to get employment and work here. It is essentially a document that gives the access to a foreigner to enter, work and stay in the country legally for a certain period of time.

Generally, these work permits allow the foreigner to work for two months after which the employer must change the employee’s status to residence visa, which allows them to live in the country for typically two or three years.

The work permit was restricted in March following the coronavirus pandemic.

As for the virus spread in the country, the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Monday reported 932 new cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus along with over a thousand recoveries.

Despite the rise in cases, the UAE government is being credited for increasing the number of tests which went up to over 88,000 yesterday.

The National Emergency Crisis Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) had earlier formed seven inspection teams that will crack down the facilities in each of the seven emirates and identify who are those who are not adhering to the instructions of coronavirus tackling and strict action will be taken against them.
