UAE Non-Oil Business Activity Surges to Nine-Month High in December

 The United Arab Emirates' non-oil private sector recorded its fastest expansion in nine months in December 2024, buoyed by strong domestic demand and increased business activity, according to the latest S&P Global Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) report. PMI Highlights Robust Growth The seasonally adjusted UAE PMI climbed to 55.4 in December from 54.2 in November, signaling robust growth well above the 50.0 threshold that separates expansion from contraction. This marked the third consecutive monthly increase, underscoring sustained recovery in the non-oil sector. Key drivers of growth included a notable rise in new business activity. The new orders subindex rose sharply to 59.3 in December from 58.0 in the previous month, reflecting strong domestic demand. Held at the Media Centre in the Green Zone, this panel discussion was part of the activities during the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) at Dubai Expo City and addressed the pressing need for climate action. Trends Research and Advisory and the University of Dubai collaborated to organize the event, which was titled "Climate Foresight: Shaping a Resilient Future.

Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of Dubai, Professor Hussain Al-Ahmad, underlined the value of university-led research in combating climate change. He emphasized that within the next 50 years, there will be a global climate disaster, and he framed COP28 as the pivotal meeting of the twenty-first century that will decide how to combat climate change.

In his remarks, Al-Ahmad emphasized the need for cooperation amongst various sectors, such as the financial industry, private businesses, and governments, in order to keep global warming from exceeding 1.5 degrees Celsius during the next 50 to 100 years. Declaring with pride that the University of Dubai has developed a campus that is carbon neutral and a model of environmental sustainability, he highlighted the university's dedication to reducing its carbon impact 

Deep dives into climate foresight and resilient futures were made possible at COP28 by a combined panel discussion between Trends Research and Advisory and the University of Dubai. The viewpoints of academics and industry experts underscored the necessity of prompt action, the importance of academic institutions in climate research, and the application of systems thinking to develop practical solutions. In addition to celebrating the achievements of young activists, the event focused attention to the necessity of working together to address the complex issues posed by climate change.
