Ramadan: Record 60,000 people pray at Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque on Laylat Al Qadr night

A record number of 60,310 Muslims gathered at the SheikhZayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on the 27th night of the holy month of Ramadan to observe Laylat Al Qadr, the special night in Islam when Muslims believe the holy Quran was first sent down from heaven to earth.
According to the WAM news agency, 60,310 Muslims are the largest number of worshippers hosted by the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque since its grand opening on 20 December 2007.
Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is the largest mosque in the UAE. It is located in Al Rawdah, Abu Dhabi. It is an important place of worship for daily prayers.
Sheikh Khalifa Grand Mosque in Al Ain, Emirate of Abu Dhabi, recorded a total number of 23,552 worshippers on Laylat Al Qadr night. Out of 23,552 people, 2,402 worshippers prayed Al Isha and Taraweeh, and 21,150 people performed the Tahajjud prayer.
Reportedly, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in the Emirate of Fujairah recorded a total number of 5,239 worshippers. Out of 5,239 people, 1,382 people performed Al Isha and Tarawih, and 3,857 people performed Tahajjud prayers.
The month of Ramadan started in the UAE on March 23. The UAE’s moon sighting committee will announce the date of Eid Al Fitr, which is the end of the holy month of Ramadan. The UAE’s moon sighting committee will meet on Thursday to determine the exact date of Eid 2023.
Laylat Al Qadr takes place during the final 10 days of the sacred month of Ramadan. Muslims believe that the first verses of the Quran were revealed to Prophet Mohammed on the night of Laylat Al Qadr. Muslims spend the final 10 nights of Ramadan in worship.
