US receives frontline support as UAE nurses volunteer for pandemic help

The United Arab Emirates has always extended its hand in supporting nations and this time yet again the nation has stepped up to support the healthcare experts in the United States as nurses from the emirates have volunteered to help the US tackle the pandemic situation.

A team of eight nurses have left for the US from the Cleveland Clinic in Abu Dhabi and will be sending six weeks with the Covid-19 frontliners in Ohio. The CCAD issued a statement on Friday about the collaboration with the US based Cleveland Clinic. They stressed that this situation highlights the confidence that the international facility has on Abu Dhabi’s Healthcare sector.

The western units trust the emirati capital for the healthcare facilities and training and hence readily accepted the medical workforce and resources during the pandemic, noted the organisation. Sue Behrens, chief nursing officer at CCAD also highlighted the critical forces role played by the nurses.

“Nurses have played a critical role during the pandemic by providing direct assistance and raising awareness among patients and communities.” Behrens also explained that from the time the pandemic has started, the response of the nurses at handling the pandemic has given them a wide range of experience and knowledge.

They have gained the skills needed for the treatment to address the needs of the patients in the United States and are ready to lend support to their American counterparts when ans where is deemed fit, asserted Behrens.

Even the nurses who have been selected for the purpose are ready for the work. One of the nurses at the neurological intensive care, Nimeh Mahmoud, said that when she received the call and the other side explained about the whole process, she did not have to think twice before agreeing to go to the US.

She added, ““I became a nurse to help people in need and give back to the community. So, when I was told that there was an opportunity to help my colleagues in the US, I could not refuse.”

Another nurse expressed her desire to share her experience and expertise with the USE team. Jennifer Yeckley works at the wound and stoma care team said that during the peak of pandemic, the nurses learned a lot about positioning of patients as they complete their recovery period. I’m looking forward to sharing that knowledge and learning more from my peers at Cleveland Clinic,” Yeckley said
