UAE Non-Oil Business Activity Surges to Nine-Month High in December

 The United Arab Emirates' non-oil private sector recorded its fastest expansion in nine months in December 2024, buoyed by strong domestic demand and increased business activity, according to the latest S&P Global Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) report. PMI Highlights Robust Growth The seasonally adjusted UAE PMI climbed to 55.4 in December from 54.2 in November, signaling robust growth well above the 50.0 threshold that separates expansion from contraction. This marked the third consecutive monthly increase, underscoring sustained recovery in the non-oil sector. Key drivers of growth included a notable rise in new business activity. The new orders subindex rose sharply to 59.3 in December from 58.0 in the previous month, reflecting strong domestic demand. Trudeau and Zelensky discussed the situation around the crash of the aircraft in Iran


Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, during which he discussed with him the latest events related to the investigation of the crash of the Ukraine International Airlines plane in Iran.  This was announced on Friday by the press service of the Canadian Prime Minister.

 The leaders of the two countries emphasized the need for a full and open investigation of this disaster, so that the relatives of the victims could receive answers to all questions.  Trudeau and Zelensky also discussed the details of participation in the investigation of the Canadian side.

 The Boeing 737, which flew from Tehran to Kiev, crashed early in the morning of January 8 near the airport of the Iranian capital immediately after takeoff.Onboard were 167 passengers and nine crew members, all of them died.

On Thursday, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that the plane could have been unintentionally shot down by a missile launched by Iran.  On January 9, his Canadian counterpart, Justin Trudeau, said that according to Ottawa’s information, the airliner could have been hit by a ground-to-air missile.  US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo on Friday at a briefing for reporters confirmed that, according to the US administration, the plane could have been shot down by an Iranian missile.  Iran confirmed this information, saying the plane was shot down by mistake.
