UAE delivers 10 aid convoys to Gaza

On the occasion, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Prime Minister
and Ruler of Dubai, also shared his feelings and called for the active
participation of everyone in maintaining a nature-friendly lifestyle. He called
for protecting the sustainability achievements of the country and asked the
community to continue and further build upon the national gains in
environmental protection that the UAE has achieved. His comments resonated with
the newly announced theme of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment to
celebrate the 28th National Environment Day. The theme titled 'Our Heritage …
Our Future' emphasizes historical sustainability practices contributing to a
more sustainable tomorrow.
Emiratis throughout history have adapted to their
environments through innovative practices. One of the most distinctive
traditional methods used is the creation of wind towers, or barajeel, which
provide a natural means of ventilation and cooling in hot climatic conditions.
Palm frond crafts, safeyat, have also been widely used as a practical tool for
creating everyday household items like baskets and food covers, where people
have displayed resourcefulness with natural materials. These historical techniques
underline the deep-rooted sustainability mindset that has been in existence in
the UAE for generations.
To further integrate these traditional practices with modern
sustainability efforts, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment has
launched several community-led initiatives culminating to World Environment Day
this June 4. It will include small-scale farming, sustainable mobility, waste
management in a responsible manner, and efficient usage of resources such as
water, electricity, and food. The UAE plans to bridge sustainability efforts
from past to present as a way to further strengthen the position of a global
leader in environmental conservation by empowering communities towards a more
sustainable future.
