UAE Non-Oil Business Activity Surges to Nine-Month High in December

 The United Arab Emirates' non-oil private sector recorded its fastest expansion in nine months in December 2024, buoyed by strong domestic demand and increased business activity, according to the latest S&P Global Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) report. PMI Highlights Robust Growth The seasonally adjusted UAE PMI climbed to 55.4 in December from 54.2 in November, signaling robust growth well above the 50.0 threshold that separates expansion from contraction. This marked the third consecutive monthly increase, underscoring sustained recovery in the non-oil sector. Key drivers of growth included a notable rise in new business activity. The new orders subindex rose sharply to 59.3 in December from 58.0 in the previous month, reflecting strong domestic demand. The UAE is one of the first countries in the Eastern Mediterranean region, which declared that it was completely free of malaria in 2007.

There was not even a single infected case or record within the country since 1997, which is really admirable.

Let’s see how the UAE made this possible & what efforts have been made by UAE Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed.

 List of Actions Taken By UAE To Fight Malaria

1) Joint Cooperation with Gates Foundation

Through long-term cooperative engagement with affected nations, the UAE collaborated with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to design and implement specialized malaria control methods.

 2) Reaching the Last Mile Fund

There was a fund launch in 2017, called ‘Reaching the Last Mile Fund’. It was done by high-level personalities & bodies, including -

      Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan

      Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi

      Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces &

      Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

The fund's efforts are estimated to be worth $100 million over a ten-year period. The objective of the fund was to eliminate all malaria cases.

 3) International Support

The United Arab Emirates is a strong supporter of international initiatives to minimize malaria cases. It has a vision to reduce the disease 90% by 2030.

 4) Personal Donations

The high-level UAE personalities including -

      Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan

      Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and

      Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces

have also donated huge amounts to the eradication of malaria since 2011.

They had also made more donations to the "Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI)" program Roll Back Malaria Partnership.

 5) Educational Ventures

They have started the Institute of Malaria and Climate Solutions during the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.

 6) Award Initiatives

There are award initiatives launched by the UAE to encourage faster malaria elimination.

The Court of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi announced its support for the march with an initial contribution of $ 1.5 million to 'Malaria No More' in 2020.

It was created as part of the Predict a Healthy Future program with the goal of determining the feasibility of malaria preventive strategies.
